Late Asst. Comdt. (Capt.) Shri Guru Prasad Joshi (11 Assam Rifles)

About Us Serve people, is to serve the Nation

We are a group of socio-economic young dynamic people with a view of developing the ways of livelihood of the hill people. Our main focus is on the implementation of modern ways of Agriculture, Education, Agro-Industries etc. in the foot hills of the great Himalayas. Our motive is to stop migration and setup a platform for migrated people to visit their motherland and contribute to the overall development of the hills. Let us develop the ways of living of the people of Devbhoomi. But to make it happen we should stand together and join people to look for modern ways of farming, education and cultural activities.

Our Vision What we do for our people

Agriculture In Hills A Concern And Need For Modern Ways And Developing Ignored Agro Sectors In The Hills

Since the ecosystem of the hill regions is very different from the plains, it is essential to focus on the agriculture of the hill districts of Uttarakhand in a different manner. Hence, the agriculture program focuses on issues, those hinders the agriculture development and also an ignored sector in the mountains. Farmer in the hills has been primarily engaged in subsistence agriculture. The low agriculture yield in the hills reflects the small size and scattered land holdings, difficult terrain, lack of irrigation facilities and improved inputs and technology and lack of credit and marketing facilities. The increasing climate variability has further affected these hill agro-ecosystems adversely.

Fodder Plantation

One of the biggest challenge of livestock sector in Uttarakhand is timely availability of fodder. The shortage of fodder results in low quality and low yield of milk that in turn affects the profitability of the livestock rearing. The shortage also affects the lives in hills in many ways. Women are mainly responsible for arranging fodder for the livestock and they have to walk a long distances to fetch the need. The condition becomes worse during winter season with the absence of seasonal grasses for fodder and the village women have to walk further long distances to collect fodder. To address this concern, new varieties of grasses like Napier, Guinea and Thysolinia should be introduced to continue the supply especially during the lean season. To ensure local availability of rootstocks, communities residing around the fodder plots were encouraged to develop micro nurseries. These micro nurseries provided rootstock for gap filling in the fodder plots and also provide steady income to the nursery growers. Fodder plantation has also been linked with MGNREGA and villagers earned income while working on fodder plots.

Farm Mechanization and Post Harvest

Popularizing farm mechanization for hard work reduction and efficient farming operations, we have to pilot small machineries like power tiller, power weeders, power sprayers, threshers, harvesters, post harvesting and processing machines for pulses, millets, oilseeds, cereals, spices, etc.
The future strategy is as :
(i) Intensive trainings and demos of farm machinery.
(ii) Meeting credit needs of farmers for procurement of machinery and tools.
(iii) Research, Development, Production and Promotion of machines. As volumes are often small and setting up processing units is unviable, therefore, cluster level semi-processing units for intermediary products has to be set up, managed and operated by the Cooperatives. Further investment on need based decentralized machanization and post harvest processing infrastructures would be created.

Critical Support Irrigation

Options for critical irrigation during crucial growth phases of crops are necessary to increase productivity and these options will be met through innovative technologies in irrigation systems. To boost the production and to adopt the adaptation strategy in the climatic turbulences, water conservation (precision farming), mulching, micro irrigation, cropping patterns adaptations, planting of low moisture requirement crops/ varieties, mixed farming and early planting, etc. should be promoted based on the status and availability of water sources. Creation of irrigation facilities for water saving (i.e. drip and sprinklers), moisture retention (i.e. polythene and biomass mulching), rain water harvesting, rejuvenation of water bodies, construction of gools (channels) and tanks and installation of solar based water lifting and irrigation schemes.
